IT Jobs and more: This is Tchibo Tech
What do we do at Tchibo Tech? Discover some of our exciting projects with microservices, big data and new work.
Tchibo is not just good at making coffee! We can do much more, such as designing new big data architecture and expanding online into China – along with all the routine challenges of our multichannel distribution system. Our people boldly take the next step and always question the accepted ways.
The department: Digital, IT & Tech
While big data is already mainstream, we are thinking one step ahead. With our new Data Lake, we are implementing a database that we can use flexibly for a variety of analyses.
Our customers have been able to order their favourite products online since 1997. We are establishing microservices so that we remain at the forefront of eCommerce in the future. Microservices make us flexible, faster and more independent.
The way we work is also different at Tchibo. Flexible working environments with desk sharing, working-out-loud circles and a variety of agile methods, all help us achieve our goals more efficiently as a closely knit team.

Team building in another way: Tchibo LEGO Challenge
As part of our "Tech Skills Programme", Tchibo employees have the opportunity to playfully demonstrate their programming skills with the "Lego Challenge". Whether you're an absolute newcomer or an old hand - everyone is welcome. Six teams have been formed, drawn from several departments and locations, and they are now competing against each other.
The challenge is to program a Lego Mindstorms robot with special skills. The only absolute must is to create a bridge to our favourite product: coffee. ☕ There are virtually no limits to the creative possibilities.
The focus is on (re)experiencing the One Tchibo family feeling and at the same time promoting curiosity about aspects of software development. The project is accompanied by small coaching sessions so that each team will finish with a cool result, but at best learn to think outside the box and master challenges together. Of course, there's no shortage of fun. 😎

Some voices from our tech colleagues
"What make working in the B2B Applications department at Tchibo special are the innovative projects and the major impact that the changes we implement have on our partners, customers and Tchibo itself. We are driving digitization, especially with edge computing and IoT, to achieve greater efficiency and closer customer proximity."
Bernd Schwegmann, Senior Consultant Shop Applications
"The system landscape of the B2C process domain, for which the B2C Applications department is responsible, encompasses a large array of SAP solutions. These solutions are constantly improved and with them we drive Tchibo's business processes forward in an innovative way. Thanks to our journey with lifelong learning, we are always gaining new insights and knowledge that help us develop our skills."
Stefan Keuker, Principal SAP Developer
"The Online Technology division pursues the vision of becoming a software development organization that is not only capable of designing services for the web store, but also understands them technically in order to build the software and run it. True to the motto 'You build it - You run it'. In addition to the engineers, the team includes product owners, scrum masters, and quality assurance - always with a focus on the product and its stakeholders."
Frerk Lätari, Head of Online Technology
"In the Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Science department, we build information platforms and data services for the data-driven management of our business processes. Our consultants and data scientists use the latest BI software and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms. Software architects and engineers define what connects the data that is derived from all internal and external sources. As part of the process, detective work to investigate unknown data sets is also the order of the day."
Marcel Knust, Teamlead Data Science & Engineering
"We, in the Product & Supply Chain Applications department, make tangible the digital world beyond the screen. Having curiosity and an innovative spirit are essential parts of our culture and DNA! The dress on display in the store? - designed by our systems using 3D product development. The goods in the warehouse? - ordered and moved around by our systems with full automation and driverless transport systems."
Annika Thamm, IT Project Manager Logistic Applications

There are no standard solutions to satisfy complex requirements
"We make the online store a little better for our customers every day. The environment is complex, so I always have to deal with new challenges. I enjoy working in a modern, traditional company. because we also get a lot of additional benefits. One small personal plus: I met a school friend at Tchibo that I had completely lost track of. Now we always meet up for lunch together."
Kathleen Theelke, Head of Online Product Management
